Heaven or Hell?

On the Wednesday before Halloween, October 26, the youth building was divided into three sections known as Heaven, Earth, and Hell. This concept was built upon a lesson to experience what the consequences of our choices are.

The "Earth Room" looked no different than an ordinary room as this is where all the students met as they decided their fate.

The "Hell Room" was such a horror that students realized their mistake immediately and wanted to be saved from their actions. The heater was turned on high as haunting music swelled through the air. Several leaders were dressed up to depict themselves as demons to help demonstrate the travesty of hell. The only food to be found were Hot Cheetos and Hot Tamales candy with no water to aid you.

The "Heaven Room" was rather delightful. The carpet was lined with gold with praise music lightening the atmosphere as more leaders were decked out in Angel garb. Angel food cake and other enjoyable foods were served aside an array of drinks.

Later in the night, students were allowed to change rooms to experience the pain or glory that their peers had received earlier. It was quite clear that by the end of the event, many students had a better grasp of Heaven & Hell.

Pastor Appreciation Day!

As some of you may know, the month of October was Pastor Appreciation month! To honor our beloved Youth Pastor Jason, some of the youth leaders conspired a plan to surprise him on the Sunday morning of Oct 23. This included a special worship session by our friend Eliezer, several speeches about how Jason had impacted personal student life, a cake that proclaimed our thanks, an oversized card with messages printed by each student and a time for prayer over Jason. In addition, Becky took over teaching duties for the day and gave an inspiring sermon about temptation.

Black Out Worship Night!!

On April 16th, 2011 Submerged Youth had an awesome experience call, "Black Out Worship Night." We also had a band from Mission Viejo Christian Church (MVCC) come and play the worship music for this event. It was cool to see the kids really embrace another form of worship, by being blind folded they were not distracted by the band, powerpoint, or the lights. They could just focus on being there in the presence of the Lord.

I would like to give a special thanks to the MVCC band for playing for us, because it gave all the leaders a break and gave them time to spend with the Lord as well.

No injuries= GOOD TIMES!!!!

We had the sympathy of the whole place when Ralph took a spill....all you could hear was a collective "OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH" throughout Pershing Square!
He was fine physically BUT couldn't stop re-telling the story of "his fame"

I know it has been a while since I have jotted down some thoughts. So you might just get a lot today.

I have been doing this personal bible study on Joy. Today really took to me.Let's rewind a little My memory verse for this week is :

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Yesterday we had a staff mtg. we started the one month to live book. We went around talked about praises in our lives and ministries. I was first to pop up and say things are going good at youth and in our life.

Now back to the study part, I have memorized most of this verse , and as I ponder on it each day this week I have really taken my Joy for granted. Today's study was about choosing to be joyful or choosing to be negative. Do I have a spiritual ecstasy ? What I mean is do I just get a spiritual high on God for Sundays and Wednesdays? Do I only get God's joy on those days? No absolutely not I get it everyday. I have been choosing to not receive it everyday. The reflection question that really touched me today is : what is missing in my life? Which goes back to the question from yesterday at staff what are my praises. Do I only give praise when asked? Well I shouldn't I should be given praise in my prayer time. Always and everyday!

So As we are reading the OMTL book yesterday in staff , it is talking about someday syndrome . Someday I will give ....... someday I will have............Joy. Today is the time time to give praise to God for the Joy in my life. The Joy in our life can be a little as waking up each morning to as big as seeing my everyday. The joy really comes from within us. are you choosing to have Joy daily in your life or are you holding back your Joy for Someday?

Now a little of Joy to share with you :

14 youth last night came to service. 3 were Jr High!

I am overwhelmed with Joy for the position I am in to give and present people with God's word. I am joyful for our pregnancy so far . But really I am joyful today because I have another oppurtunity to be a Dad and Husband for another day.

You see the joy in life is really appreciating the small things in our life.

We're off to camp this weekend!

We have a freedom to be proud of. We have a freedom in this country because of our soldiers. We really need to pray for our soldiers. Pray that God will protect them. Pray that God’s provisioning hand will be upon them and their families.

Day 23 The Poor, the Orphans and The Widows

Orphans, Widows and the Poor are you serious? Isn't that the job of the church , not mine. We are the church! So many times people want the church to do the work, well we are the church.

What does it mean to be poor to you? Is it because you can't buy MAC one month, are you poor? Did you know we are 75% richer in the United States than the rest of the country. Some families don't even have food for each day.But yet we are willing to pop off and say I am poor. So how poor are you?

Just because we can't eat out all the time and buy what we want does that make you poor?

Did you know that lil ‘ J was an orphan? With a face like the one you see how can you resist him? We really need to have a heart for these kids. I am so blessed to have a youth group who cares. In December, we were able to bless orphans through a toy drive. We gave a car full of toys to Lakewood DCFS. That was the only toys that the department received.

What about widows? Widowas are the ones that have lost a spouse. We difinitely need to be soft in this area. I think church body does a good job meeting the needs of widows. But we definitely need to pray for them.

I ask that God will continue to soften our hearts for matters such as these.

Day 20 Actions speak louder than words

Purity was yesterday’s prayer point, and I think it goes well with today’s point.
Our purity, both physically and mentally affects our future. But what does purity have to do with our future spouse.

Purity is not just being celibate until you are married. It also means your actions toward the opposite sex. How are we when it comes to talking and thinking about the other sex? Our future wife or husband will either reap benefits of our purity now or suffer the effects of it.

We really need to pray that our purity will honor God, and in doing so we will honor our future spouse!

Today I pray that you seek God’s heart on what purity means to you, and you are able to honor Him and your future spouse.

Day 18 Blah Blah Priorites

Where are your priorities? Have your parents ever said that? I know mine have, but it wasn’t until late last year I really figured what they were talking about.

We get caught up in life. We get involved in relationships, and other hobbies that seem to occupy our lives. We really need to learn to slow down enough to see where our priorities are. Where are we spending our money, where are we spending most our time?

Priorities can shape the way we live. What do we value the most, and are we putting it as our first priority.

Where is God in your priorities?

I pray today God will reveal to you what and where your priorities lay at in your life.

30-33"If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Day 17 To Dew or Not

There are so many choices for soda now a days. 6 different kinds of Mountain Dew,that I know of. Are you serious? Life shouldn't be this difficult. Choices are difficult,especially dealing with life. Such choices as who will I date, do I really like them enough to have a serious relationship. Other choices also like following Christ, should I put my heart in to this Christian thing or should I just be a hit miss kind of person.
Choices we make now will impact our lives and the people around it. Let me tell you choices don’t get easier as we get older. But I think and wish they would.
This is probably why God has instructed us to be wise. We need to seek wisdom from God and from people we feel are wise, or even more mature than us.I really believe in having someone you can bounce off ideas with,like an accountability partner.

What choices to do you make without seeking wisdom?

Day 16

Forgiveness is a crazy thing I think we all struggle with. Whether we struggle receiving it or even given it.
My 3 year old often says after he has been in trouble………”daddy will you forgive me for not listening.” This just reminds that we need to have this same innocence as we approach our God, and others in forgiveness. How many times do we deserve forgiveness?
When Jesus was asked by Peter how times should we forgive, Jesus responded seventy seven times.
I know for me, it is hard to swallow my pride to ask for forgiveness. Sometimes it is even harder to forgive someone who has wronged us. But we must continue to allow forgiveness work through our heart so we can become compassionate people.
I hope today was a day to really search your heart on forgiveness.

Day 13 Superstition and Worship

Friday the 13………oh my!
Do you believe in superstitions? I don’t just for the record. But isn’t it funny how the world puts fear in our heads. Or even superstitions like today Friday the
13th. It’s funny because growing up my mom was always afraid of the day Friday the
13th,for some odd reason, she would always stub her toe or something stupid would end up happening. When she became a Christian her fear or superstition of this day faded away. Why? It faded away because we have a God that can overcome any superstition or fear we have.
Today as you pray for our worship team, sing a praise to HIM and give thanks . Thanks for what you might ask: Thanks that he has over come fear and superstition for us.

4 Shout your praises to God, everybody!
Let loose and sing! Strike up the band!
Pray for our church worship team
Pray for worship to be from their heart, not just a performance
Pray for Ryan as he leads the team
Pray for the team as a whole, pray for unity.

It is so important we have a worship team .Sometimes with new people, they base church on the first thing they hear and see.
The worship team also leads us into Gods throne room to prepare our hearts for His word.

Day 12

I have you felt God's breath today. I felt it about 7:45am this morning. I forgot I had to move our car because of street sweeping, so I rushed outside in a panic, (one sock on and one off). It was bit breezy. As I got in to the car I felt God say why are you rushing you have 15 minutes. For minute or so I was able to sit there in the car and give thanks to God for a beautiful day and feel his presence (or the wind) to just blow through my sweats.
The point of this story: How many times are we in a rush, and we don’t give thanks for the little thingsin life. Like the sun, or a breath of fresh air. Today I was able to that.

12And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised

Remember to pray for our Cuba mission team. They are going into unchartered territory for Christ.

A little footnote about the Cuba team related to this verse. The Cuba team is walking by faith for finances, and for all of their needs while on their trip. Just as Abraham walked by faith so does our mission team. So PRAY!

It is hard to believe that we are already 10 days into this fast. It seems like for ever. How is everyone feeling about it?
Prayer time has been really good for me. How has it been for you?

1If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

Make sure to pray for Rachel and Becky and our Worship Night.

It is really good practice for us to pray for others, because we are putting our needs to the side to pray for others.

Insight: It is important to pray for our spiritual leaders as God has appointed them. We want to make sure our Pastor is covered in prayer as the enemy doesn’t want him to do God’s will.

So why do we need to pray for Pastor Kevin? The enemy would love nothng more that to tear apart his family and our church. God has appointed Pastor Kevin as our spiritual leader we need to make sure we pray for him, we want godly decisions , that can only happen through power of prayer. And of course, Pastor Kevin reading the word which I think he does.....

So as the rain showers us today, we should shower Pastor Kevin with our prayers today.

So how is everyone doing so far? Is it rough at all?
I really didn't know how much TV I watched at night, amazing I waste that much time. The whole fruit and vegatable thing is not as bad as I thought. But I need to add some more protein, so I am not just eating fruits and veggies.

Have you ever heard the saying a family that prays together stays together?
Same goes with us as friends. We need to have people praying for us, the cause of this day is to make sure we are covered in prayer.

The bible mentions iron sharpens iron.

What this means is we are here to sharpen each other , to be there for each other.
How many times have you prayed for wisdom? besides right before an exam!
I think we forget that we have power through Christ to recieve heavenly wisdom.

I pray that your relationship with Christ will be deeper that it was a month ago ...
I also pray that God will give you the confidence in him today to ask for wisdom.

I want to let you know Traci and I will be praying extra for YOU these next 28 days. May God shower HIS blessings over you for your obedience to him.

Remember if you mess up; pick up where you left off. It’s ok!!!!

The way this works is every Sunday you get a new prayer packet for that week. Each day you will have something to pray for, some days you will verses, some you won’t. So just follow along by days. Also every week we will be taking communion together so feel free to join us in the corner, by the cross.

Here is our verse for fasting, try to memorize it.

We will be ending our Fast with a Worship Night on Saturday February 28th to give God glory for moving in our lives. Watch for more details to come.

Day 1
Feb 1st

Pray for the fast today. Pray that whoever is doing the fast that God will move in their lives. Also pray for people to stay committed to the fast.

2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Day 2
February 2nd

Today pray for your friends that don’t know Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Pray that you can be a light to them.
Pray for a God moment to witness to them.

Matthew 21:21 NIV
21Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done.

February 3

Today pray for your friends who are Christians.
Pray for a deeper relationship for them with Christ.

1-3 Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. "Honor your father and mother" is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, "so you will live well and have a long life."

Toy Donations

We gathered a grip {yes, that’s proper wording} of toys from our Christmas play! The original plan was to gather a group to deliver the toys to Orangewood, however when speaking with a social worker we learned that the Lakewood Department of Children and Family Services was seriously lacking in toy donations this year and needed a whole bunch ASAP, so we opted to send them there, immediately. This meant I had to travel alone, but I must tell you how excited these people were to see the toys that YOU brought together to bless orphans this Christmas! Because of your work and commitment to the play there are many children in our area who will be directly gifted with a awesome Christmas present this year.
